Behind the scenes for ”Kind in my” Fashion Shoot.

Sunny Wednesday afternoons call for shooting extraordinary shoots. The photoshoot for our theme ‘’Kind in My’’ was a special one indeed. Seeing the outcome of a shoot is always great, but what is even greater is to see how this shoot was put together and see what happened behind the scenes. It takes a lot of planning and time to organize a successful shoot. From the sourcing of the clothing items to finding the perfect model is challenging. Having only one day to play around is barely enough. It all comes down on how well you plan the shoot beforehand.

There are two very important things to bear in mind when planning a shoot:

1. Nothing ever goes like you imagined or pre-planned.

2. Always have a backup plan for when things take a turn.

Moodboards: It is very important to have your mood boards ready in time for send outs. I usually make two mood boards beforehand. One for the makeup ideas and one for the clothing ideas. This is to give a clear indication of what we have in mind for the shoot and to explain it to those that are involved in the shoot. Sourcing: For this shoot, Mr Price Clothing was used as our source because they had the most colourful & playful items in the store now. I sourced accessories from none other than Accessorize. When I source I also like to involve up-and-coming-designers to get their name out there. Be sure to check out Cac&Tis (Call a cab and take it slow). We love this name and brand. In our latest magazine the winner of this year’s NWU Consumidor Fashion show, also had the opportunity to showcase the amazing outfit she created for her entry (only one of the many she showcased). The white and red creation in the photo belongs to her. For more info, ‘’like’’ The Wilhelmina page on Facebook.

Location: Trashers Skatepark was most certainly the perfect location to create the all over “idea” we had in mind to create this masterpiece. It’s always satisfying at the end of the day to see how the pieces fall in place (not usually as planned) but still creating a perfect and unique piece of art. That’s exactly how I see styling. It’s a unique way of expressing art, playing with different clothing items and accessories. When I first saw the mood board that was created for our theme Kind in my, I immediately felt the excitement, because this was an opportunity to break the rules a bit and dare to be different.

Meet the team:

She knew from the word go, what my idea was for the shoot and together we envisioned the same outcome. Christene has a delicate eye for detail when it comes to capturing the perfect moment. She interned at successful celebrity photographer, Francois Olivier Photography who is the creator behind the camera for our cover shoots.
